  1. Eliminate all unnecessary distractions. You need to have your full attention to your surroundings and what is going on around you.
  2. Scan your surroundings. Make sure that there isn’t anyone following you. If there is ever anyone or anything that is making you feel uncomfortable, turn around and go back the way you came.
  3. Walk with confidence. Keep your head up and scan from left to right, take stock of what is going on around you. Be aware and alert.
  4. Don’t unlock your car until you have physical contact with your vehicle and have made sure that the inside and outside of your car is clear of any harm. Walk with your keys in your hand ready to go.
  5. Once inside, lock your doors as soon as you get inside. Don’t become distracted by your phone or other personal items.
  6. Start your car and then put on your seatbelt and deal with your phone, your personal items, etc. if you have to, but make sure to maintain a visual scan of your surroundings.
